Can’t believe #meetseason is here! In the first in a (hopefully) ongoing series, a meetcritique judge is offering their 5 Pre-season reminders.
1. Scores are not everything
Gymnastics is a sport of perfection and as a result, it is heavily score-driven. It is very natural to have a “scores, scores, scores” mentality. Gymnastics is a marathon, not a sprint, it’s a lifestyle, not a game. The scores are important but just remember that gymnastics is so much more than just scores.
2. Mounts and Dismounts
The mount and dismount are the first and last things the judge sees when watching your routine. Keep this in mind and remember to hold yourself tall and confident no matter what.
3. Falls
Falling at a competition might feel like the end of the world but I promise it’s not. Falls are natural and will happen more often than we want. When they happen, take a breath, brush it off, and finish your routine strong!
4. Judges are not out to get you
Judges love gymnastics as much as if not more than you do (that’s why they are judging). They are not out to get you. They want to see your best gymnastics and they are committed to providing fair and accurate scores.
5. Gymnastics is fun!
Gymnastics is one of the hardest sports in the world! It will not always be easy, but remember to find the fun in the sport!
