Applicable to WAG Compulsory, Xcel and Optionals
Definition: Judges can take up to -0.3 for incorrect foot form in choreography throughout the routine.
Explanation: This deduction only applies to choreography and does not apply to any major elements or value part skills. A separate deduction of -0.05 is taken on major elements or value part skills for flexed feet. Judges apply the footwork deduction if the gymnast has flexed or sickled feet, does not use a toe-ball-heel sequence in steps, or does not show turn out. In addition, in compulsory levels, a footwork deduction may be applied if the gymnast fails to show releve lock positions when designated.
Here are some common places footwork deductions occur:
- Flexed feet on down on the floor choreography
- Stepping with your heel first and a flexed foot in the steps leading up to a leap or jump
- A gymnast foot being turn inward on a pose which should show turn out
- Insufficient releve positions in pivot turns on beam
