meetcritique Success Story: Tupelo Gymnastics Center

Owner Calls meetcritique “The Missing Link in Our Training”

It’s always exciting to hear how our judge-driven platform is making a difference in the gymnastics community. So we’re stoked to share the experience of Tupelo Gymnastics Center, where owner Shawna Hermansen has found meetcritique to be a game-changer for their competitive program.

Discovering meetcritique

Shawna first came across meetcritique through a simple Google search, looking for ways to enhance their gymnastics training and evaluation process. Little did she know that this discovery would become an integral part of their coaching strategy.

Implementing meetcritique

Tupelo Gymnastics Center wasted no time in putting meetcritique to use. They submitted routines for their entire Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) team, as well as for their Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Level 6 and 8 teams. The MAG routines were from an in-house meet where no judge was present, while the WAG routines were training videos.

The Impact on Gymnasts

The center presented the meetcritiques to their gymnasts during practice, allowing each gymnast to read the comments and watch their routines. The results were impressive, particularly in areas where gymnasts had been struggling with persistent issues.

Shawna shared an example: “Some of the gymnasts have been receiving the same types of deductions for years. We have recorded them and stopped the video to show them the error. They have done tons of drills to correct the error. One example is footwork in Floor routines. After watching the videos and seeing the deductions in real-time, several kids were able to correct most of their errors immediately.

This real-time feedback proved to be a breakthrough, helping gymnasts visualize and understand their deductions in a way that traditional coaching methods hadn’t achieved.

Positive Reactions All Around

The gymnasts’ response to the written judges’ feedback was overwhelmingly positive. All of them found it very helpful and encouraging. This positive reinforcement, combined with clear, actionable feedback, has proven to be a powerful motivator for improvement.

A Coach’s Perspective

As a head master for a Christian school, gym owner, coach, and a mother of four, Shawna wears many hats. She expressed that becoming a certified judge wasn’t feasible for her, and the lack of an in-house judge was becoming an issue she thought might be holding back her gymnasts’ progress. meetcritique filled this gap perfectly.

“We have always felt like not having a certified judge has always been a missing link to our program,” Shawna explained. “meetcritique has been so helpful that we will continue to use it every month!”

Looking to the Future

Tupelo Gymnastics Center has so far received feedback on nearly 200 routines – spread across the WAG and MAG teams. And they have plans to incorporate meetcritique into their regular training regimen, using it for monthly critiques to help improve routines. This consistent feedback will allow for continuous improvement and progress tracking throughout the season.

Final Thoughts

Shawna’s closing remarks sum up their experience: “meetcritique was simple to use and the most helpful online tool we have ever used. We received feedback in a timely manner. The gymnasts were encouraged by the feedback and very motivated to work on the errors. We really love this program.”

At meetcritique , we’re proud to provide a tool that empowers coaches and gymnasts alike. By pausing your gymnastics videos to show level-specific bonuses and deductions in real time, we’re giving you gymnastics superpowers. The success story of Tupelo Gymnastics Center is just one example of how meetcritique is making a difference in gymnastics training and evaluation.
