Definition: Step and push off from one foot, closing the free foot in the air behind or next to the take-off foot. Land on the opposite foot, demi-plié. Can be performed forward, sideward, or backward.
Explanation: A slide with both legs bent either forwards, backwards or sideways and meeting in the air straightened. It can be done by pushing the first foot along the floor in a plié and springing into the air where both legs meet stretched.
It helps to create momentum in dance passage especially before leaps. It is correctly done when the gymnast shows good height with the feet pointed in the air and the legs are straight. The take off of the chasse is from a staggered turned out feet position (4th position) with both legs bent.
